Singularity
Stortregn
Sometimes, the new possibilities that enter into the music can bring us some different works. And Big Daddy here has a conviction: if it is different from what other bands are playing, it's new. And new things are truly welcome, because the past has nothing more to be explored.
And from Switzerland, the same country that gave us HELLHAMMER, CELTIC FROST and CORONER, come the quartet STORTREGN, that is really bring us something different: on "Singularity", their new album, I believe that new possibilities are arising.
They are a band that plays an incredible mix between Death and Black Metal. But they are as far from BEHEMOTH and HATE ways into the style as my words can describe. No, they are playing with technique and melody, creating something different and really new. The guitars are playing excellent riffs and melodic solos (as some acoustic moments appears a throughout the entire album), good vocals with harsh shrieked tunes that remember a bit what we are used to hear from Dani from CRADLE OF FILTH (along with very good guttural grunts and some sinister whispers), and a heavy and technical work from bass guitar and drums. Yes, they are really creating something different and new, something that demands (and deserves) applauses from us all.
Their musical production was done in a fine way. Besides they prefer to keep some of the harshness that Black Metal. And Vladimir Cochet made a fine work on the album's production, because everything is clear to our ears, every musical instrument is on great shape and very good tunes. Is something aggressive and nasty, but with a good level of clarity.
And the artwork and layout of Juanjo Castellano is really good, even using just shades of black, deep purple and gray on the art. It's sinister, but wonderful to our eyes.
Musically, these guys are mature, and ready to great trials!
On "Enlighten Salvation", we have a technical and extremely aggressive song, where some melodies arise from the excellent guitar work (even some duets are presented here) and on "Acosmic Ascendant" (this one has a deeper and introspective feeling permeating it, along with some aggressive tempos). "Crimson Depths" has a more violent and slow aspect, using very good guttural grunts and harsh voices, along with excellent guitars. Sad melodies and harsh violent vocals and tempos are what wait for us on "Aurora" (in some moments, we remind of something DISSECTION used to sound on their earlier works). And on "Nightside of Eden", again an excellent violent guitars' work is heard, with good rhythmic changes and different vocals once more. These can be said as the album's finest moments, along with the bonus track "Neverending Singularity". But from the beginning to its end, "Singularity" is a great album, with no flaws.
They are excellent, and can become great if you, dear banger that is reading my words, can give them a chance.<
