Spider Kickers - Kingdom of Epirus album cover

Well, again we have to deal with a reissue. And again, I must do the same question: why in the blazes is this is a trend in these days we are living?

Some I can understand; when they are classics, and some really deserves a second chance, and many don't, because some albums really didn't even being noticed by many Metal fans. And this is the case from Greek ancient band SPIDER KICKERS, with the reissue of their Single, "Kingdom of Papirus".

They are an ancient band of Death/Thrash Metal. But it's truly moldy and out of date, and even for 1993 (the year of this Single original release), when Death Metal was at the peak of the Second Wave success, it was nothing really different from the common bands from those times. And compared to names as DISMEMBER, OBITUARY, DEICIDE, ENTOMBED, GRAVE, they could be labeled as a good band, but with nothing that can call the attention for their work.

Obviously, the sound quality is not something wonderful. It's raw and nasty as some bands from those days were sounding, but without enough clearness for us to get the best of their work. It's not something really worst, but could be way better. It should be good for a Demo Tape on those days, but not for a Single.

For the first time released on CD format, we have the two original songs, "Screams in My Pain" and "Evil Side", both being good songs, with some good rhythmic changes, nasty guttural vocals and good riffs, in the extreme dirty and aggressive Death Metal way from those days, with some guitar accords inherited from Thrash Metal. And "Realm of Corruption" and "Abyssial Hate" are bonus tracks for this version. But besides they did a good work back them, there's no reason to justify a reissue.

Ok, by now, I really accept that "Kingdom of Epirus" is an item for collectors, but for those searching for something outstanding, this EP is not a good choice.
