Overload
Spektra
The Brazilian Metal scene has a strong tradition in extreme Metal genres. And although Hard Rock/Glam Metal acts can experience hardships on Brazil due the lack of public praise, they still fight hard, and some musicians become known after many struggles for a space for them in the scene. But in the greater part of times, they earn praise from outside of the country prior to the one on Brazil! And it'll be the case of SPEKTRA for sure, because "Overload" is a Hard Rock piledriver!
The guys played with names as JSS, SOTO, TALISMAN, WIZARDS, TEMPESTT, SUPLA and others, so they're experienced musicians. On the album, the band presents a massive and heavy form of Hard/Glam Metal, accessible and with excellent and fluid melodies, hooking choruses and a great work on each musical instrument. But with one difference: Brazilian acts of the genre take influences from bands as GUNS N' ROSES, but these guys are showing influences that reminds works from names as WINGER and JOURNEY, but an amazing musical weight. It's really great! The album was produced by B. J. along Alessandro Del Vecchio (who did all the keyboards parts as well) and Jeff Scott Soto (who works with B. J. on SOTO and TALISMAN, and sings on the backing vocals of the album), and the songs are sounding clear and with the right instrumental tunes. But be prepared, because there's an unusual weight for the genre on this album!
The album is amazing, and will open many doors for them. And "Overload" (a massive and catchy song, with excellent guitars and vocals, and what an amazing chorus), "Runnin' Out of Time" (a bit more accessible, but with great guitar riffs and lovely melodies), "Just Because" (a song that could be used on cigarettes' commercials in the 80's, accessible and the backing vocals are amazing), "Our Love" (a massive and heavy song, based on a strong and thunderous work from bass guitar and drums), "Breakaway" (a song that balances weight and accessible melodies in a great way), "Don't Matter" (another very good set of heavy and catchy melodies, in an 80's trend), and "Forsaken" (a brutal weighty comes from this one, but always with lovely melodies and keyboards) are samples of an album that is really amazing, and that really conquers the listeners at first hearing.
With "Overload", the name of SPEKTRA will become great, without a shadow of doubt. But for my compatriots from Brazil, it'll be again the same experience: the quartet will be praised by the public outside before here (not me, because I became a fan of the work after this review).
