Due to my long experience in music, I can handle bands that are sold as the eighth wonder of the world to many, but I can detect they (the bands) are just doing the same music I heard before many times. Some of them are really good, because the talent that the bands have can make something old sound fresh and interesting. The English quartet SPACE ELEVATOR makes something in this way on their newest release, "II". Their mix of Classic Rock with Melodic Rock and a Pop Rock feeling is nothing new at all. I heard in back in the 80's, but what they do smells like fresh and is really very good. Charming melodies, a very good technical work on all musical instruments, and a set of excellent melodies that can seduce even a crippled mummy. Yes, you can hear it and you'll like this album a lot.

The sound quality is their main secret: doing a musical genre that is old, they chose to sound as a modern band, what is different from this tendency of sounding like in the 60's, 70's and 80's that torments our patience. No, they prefer to use an organic sound with a modern and clean sound quality that allows us to understand their musical work. It seems that the songs had not too many editions, the reason for this organic energy that flows from the album. The excellent vocals presented on the energetic and savage "Take the Pain", the noir melodies of "Talk Talk" (that shows a great work from bass guitar and drums), the beautiful and charming "The One that Got Away" (a typical Pop song from the second half of the 70's that here fits perfectly), the perfect chorus of "Crazies (Take Me Home)", the intense introspective charm of "All This Time", the good guitars presented on the accessible "Far Away Boy" and the charming melodies of "Keep Waiting" (very good guitars once more) are their finest moments. But the entire album is really a great experience.

We can say that SPACE ELEVATOR is a fine revelation as a band, and we have the sensation that they are just beginning. So enjoy "II" until they come back for another round.
