Source - Source (Reissue) album cover

This time we are living will be seen in the future as the one where bands with modern ways co-existed with those with an Old School approach. It's not something bad at all, but no one needs to be engaged on struggles in social media. Such thing only fragments Metal and weaken the genre. So, anyone could hear a band as the Swedish trio SOURCE and take the best from their first release, "Source". To be honest, it's just the reissue of their first digital Demo in a physical form, on MCD or vinyl (you wish the best for yourself). And their musical work is a traditional Heavy Metal based on names as MERCYFUL FATE, HELSTAR and CIRITH UNGOL, or to be straight, on those ones who worked with tons of musical weight and without playing as fast as they could. The trio needs to mature a bit more, but as we can hear on this EP, they're on the right path.

The production of the EP was done in a way that the band could sound as organic as possible, with the right touch of rawness. Of course, it could be better, to shape their musical work into a better set of tunes (especially the drums), but it's not bad. "Crossroads Calling" is a heavy and melodic song, with fine arrangements and an amazing energetic insight and very good guitars (but it could be shorter and the effect would be the same). On "Let Him In" the entire band is doing a great work, with truly heavy rhythmic parts (bass guitar and drums created a solid work, indeed). If you hear influences from MERCYFUL FATE on "Wither", you're right, because it's clear in the vocals (no, it's not the same tunes that King Diamond would use, but the outfit) and in the melodies of the solos. And "The Serpent is Rising" is a bonus, a version for an old song from STYX.

A very good and promising name, and as things improve and they evolve, no one will hold these guys back.
