Slivers of Silence - Into Glistening Waters album cover

When we deal with Finland Metal scene, "Big Daddy" here never could think of the invasion of Finnish Metal bands that arose at the second half of the 90s. I personally that the first Metal name that arose there is from OZ, back in the 70s, and then, only when extreme Metal bands as BEHERIT, SENTENCED, BARATHRUN, AMORPHIS (on their first times) and IMPALED NAZARENE arose in the first years of the 90s that we could see again a band from those frozen lands. But after them, a massive raid from Finland to take the Metal scene worldwide came. NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, SONATA ARCTICA, THY SERPENT, and many others came to stay, others to drown back into the underground. But now, Finnish Metal is something established. And one good name that arrives now is the quintet SLIVERS OF SILENCE. Their EP "Into Glistering Waters" is something very good.

They play a style that mixes a bit from CHILDREN OF BODOM, latest albums from SENTENCED and GHOST BRIGADE to create a more introspective and melancholic feeling, but with some aggressive and harsh moments (as we can hear on "Moscow, New York", and we could think that they are a melodic and melancholic Death Metal band). Of course they're not a carbon copy of the bands "Big Daddy" here named above, for they have their own personality, with charming and good melodies permeating their songs. Very good vocals (both on high pitches as in clean form), guitars making a fine and melancholic job on riffs (and with charming melodies on solos), very good rhythmic session, and some good and melodic keyboards (reinforcing the melancholic aura of their songs) is what they present, so we can for sure become addicted in their work.

Very good sound quality, everything sounding clear and heavy the way the band needs. It seems that, even in an independent format, things are becoming very accessible on Finland (in economic terms, I meant).

"Moscow, New York" shows a more aggressive insight due the extensive use of harsh vocals, but with charming keyboards. "On Summer's Day" is a bit more introspective and melancholic, but with 30% of the vocals being in harsh form, and the other 70% is on clean voices, what turns the song more accessible and tasteful (along with very good solos and riffs). At the beginning, "One of You" shows melodies in guitars in the same way IRON MAIDEN used to play on the 80s, but the melancholic insight is less explicit in some moments than on previous songs. On "Bight Dreams", the melancholy becomes stronger than before, due the clean vocals used and some clean moments on guitars, and this song shows a perfect work on bass and drums. And "Into Glistening Waters" is a wonderful song, mixing perfectly all their musical elements, with very good vocals again.

Now I must ask: why in the blazes these guys didn't release a full album yet? They are mature for it.

Musical labels, it's up to you!
