Alternative Metal is a genre that is widely known for being evolved from modern Metal ways in the USA. But such label comprises an ample range of musical formats, so New Metal, Metalcore, Djent and others came. But SIXFORNINE, a quartet that arose from Athens (Greece), and they defy the prior musical conceptions of many about Alternative Metal with "Parallel Universe", the band's second album.

They play in an accessible and heavy way with a modern Metal outfit, but always creating a link between melodies from Hard Rock with the weight of traditional Heavy Metal. In some parts, they could be compared to DISTURBED (on its melodic moments) and even with AVENGED SEVENFOLD but being heavier than and not as youngster-orientated as this last one (with all respect for their work). It's charming, heavy and modern, with accessible choruses and melodies that are easy to understand. The formula isn't new, but the way they do things is really personal.

The vocalist Fotis Benardo (yes, the same guy who played drums on SEPTICFLESH and NIGHTRAGE) produced the album, and it was mixed by Paul Pavao (who worked with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, DISTURBED, and others), and was mastered by Tom Baker (known for his works with MÖTLEY CRÜE, NIN, Rob Zombie and others), and it really sounds great! It's heavy, melodic and aggressive in the due proportions, but keeping it all modern and clean as well. So be prepared for a truly amazing sound blow on your ears!

The modern and catchy melodies of "Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining" (very good vocals, indeed), the contrast between harsh aggressive parts with melodic and introspective moments heard on "Life‐Devouring Demons" (excellent bass guitar and drums presence), the deeper and melancholic modern feeling that fills "Never Ending Road", the Prog Metal ambiance of "Counting Stars (A Parallel Universe)" (that shows very good guitars), and the electric and accessible "Sea of Lies" (another very good set of frantic guitar riffs) are the best songs of the album, but it's good from the beginning to its end.

SIXFORNINE is a very good name of the Greek Rock scene, so hear "Paralell Universe" and enjoy it!
