Shevils - The White Sea album cover

Some bands really evolve a lot as many as we see of their works. It's because some like to show how they can go into a different way into what we already know. And that the case from Norwegian band SHEVILS, the returns with "The White Sea", their newest album. Still furious, abrasive and dense, their metalized Hardcore gained some different musical influences, and even a more experimental insight than before, but without losing their aggressive insight and even a amount of good taste can be heard. There are moments where the aggressiveness is more evident, and other ones where their experimental insight takes control over their songs, but the final result is always excellent.

Marcus Forsgren produced and mixed "The White Sea" at EngfeltForsgren Studio, and the mastering was done by Jørgen Træen at Duper Studio. The result is a sound quality that flows in a heavy, bitter and clean way from the speakers. But obviously, the instruments' tunes are really abrasive and heavier than on their previous work, "Lost In Tartarus". And Christoffer Gaarder (guitar and backing vocals on "Shivers") and Marcus Forsgren (bass, guitar, baritone and synth) are the invited guest who gave a special and different taste to the album's songs.

The albums' songs are not so difficult to understand, but the more you hear, the more you'll like them. And even with an homogeneous level, I point to "We Could Leave The World" (with its very good riffs, with tunes alternating between a clean distortion to an abrasive one. And very good work on vocals as well), the visceral aggressiveness heard on "One Thousand Years" (a very good work done on drums and bass guitar), the introspective and harsh "Black Summer" (with some very good and hooking melodies), the intense and oppressive "Fireflies", and modern and dynamic "When Will I See You Again?".

A very good and amazing album, but I still think that their full potential is not out. But "The White Sea" is a very good travel into a personal and musical world.
