Sheol Hades - Metal Disease (Reissue) album cover

Back in 1986, I was hearing a lot of Metal bands from the new generation, as BATHORY, KREATOR, SODOM, DESTRUCTION, METALLICA, SLAYER, EXODUS, RUTLESS, OMEN and many other names. I was 16 years old, and had been listening to Metal since 1983. These words can give you an idea of the reason I keep saying that to be an Old School band can be difficult, or the reason for I keep saying that what lies in the past must be left there. There aren't names hidden in conditions to beat these that I wrote above. So I see no reason for this new release of "Metal Disease", the only demo tape (in this version is a CD) of North American band SHEOL HADES.

It's just another Speed/Heavy Metal band from the 80s, influenced by names as METALLICA, SLAYER and MOTORHEAD. So even for the 80s (specifically, the year of 1986, when the demo tape was originally released) their music has no chance to compete with the greater ones from those days. Now, it's just a boring and moldy experience that wannabes from the 80s can see some value. The sound quality is not as bad as many demo tapes from the first half of the 80s. But it is not what the band deserved, because the tunes for bass guitar and drums give the sensation that they were trying to sound as VOIVOD on their earlier works (pay attention: I wrote the instrumental tunes, not the music), but without the same charming dirtiness.

In the 80s, a great part of the bands needed a producer to lapidate their musical work. This aspect is repeated on "Metal Disease". The band could have better results if a producer worked with them in a better way, because songs as "Fire", "Metal Disease", "All by the Knife" and "Back from the Grave" show that they had talent and could show many musical possibilities, but not in this unpolished state. "Metal Disease" is not a total waste, but I believe that bands as MALICE, RUTHLESS and older works from THE RODS deserve a chance than this demo tape...
