Fisting the Sockets
Severe Torture
The Dutch Death Metal scene is widely known for its famous names, because Netherland gave birth to classic Death Metal acts of the Second Wave as PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, SINISTER, GOREFEST, GOD DETHRONED, and others. But there are many Dutch acts playing the genre, and some that seemed lying on the grave arises and storms again. And SEVERE TORTURE is in such a case, but there here after 12 years with a new release, "Fisting the Sockets", a three-track EP.
The band's music is what one can expect from an old name of the scene: brutal, nasty and ferocious. But no one can say that the quintet doesn't have a personality, it's the opposite: standing in the classic Death Metal form they're not only showing that time wasn't able to erode the band's musical convictions, but sharpened their aggression in a way that is amazing. It's rough and aggressive, but flowing with life and energy. What are you waiting for? These three songs were recorded at Torture Compound Studios, having Damien Kerpentier (the band's drummer) taking care of the production with Marvin Vriesde (one of the band's guitarists) working on the sound engineering, with Mendel bij de Leij taking care of the mastering. All to create sound quality that blends the fury and classic aggressiveness of the band's music with a modern and defined outfit. It's ferocious, so take care. And what a very good art on the cover, and it's a creation of Roberto Toderico. It states clearly that the listener is dealing with a Classic Death Metal act.
After a darkened intro, "Fisting the Sockets" comes as a furious Death Metal storm, with fast tempos and massive guitars giving sustain to the nasty low grunts and snarls of the vocals. The slaughter keeps on as can be heard on "Entangled in Hate" (what a solid and weighty rhythms conducted by bass guitar and drums, with very good contrasts in many moments). And "Hands and Head Not Found" is a classic Death Metal song with the famous Dutch DNA of the genre, with a massive attack based on excellent and bitter guitars arrangements. But after such a massacre, it's impossible to not ask for more (that will come on 2023, because they're recording a new album, and I just can't wait for it).
"Fisting the Sockets" could be called easily as 'fist in your mouth down your throat', and it states that SEVERE TORTURE is back and it's not living off their past!
