The Death and Resurrection of Krautrock: IO
Seven That Spells
Ok, since some weeks, your Ol' Big Daddy here became the Mr. "Puzzle Man" here on Metal Temple. It's because I have to review some bands too hard to describe the way they sound to my dear nephews and nieces. Ok, I'm getting used to this, and there's always a new band for an old warhorse like me to know. And now, it's time (no, I'm not using those comments from MMA fights, please) to introduce you all to SEVEN THAT SPELLS, a band from Zagreb (Croatia), that comes with a new album, "The Death and Resurrection of Krautrock: IO".
First of all, I must say that this album is not very easy to understand, and swallowing these songs is not as easy as it seems.
It's a very particular mix between a psychedelic musical style with some regional aspects and something more ethereal at times (like old bands from the beginning of the 70s), with broken tempos and a handful of experimentalisms, so it's too weird in the first listening. But when you get used to it, of course it turns into a more understandable sound. And it's too good.
Good sound quality (good work done by the album producer), so their musical work can be listened in its totality. It's clear and polite.
Five songs are presented, two of them great giants lasting more than 10 minutes ("IO"), with almost 20 minutes, a festival of great variations, broken tempos, clean and psychedelic guitars and good rhythmic basis, and "Burning Blood", with the same elements, and with some great Hindu moments). "In II" and "Out II", in minor time, present the same elements.
A good work, but needs time to get used to it.
