Condemned to Suffer

The Dutch Death Metal Scene is famous and fertile, as gave to the world names as GOREFEST, SINISTER, GOD DETHRONED, PESTILENCE, ASPHYX, CENTURIAN and others. But to see that it still revealing very good names, even after 30 years since the first coming of Dutch Death Metal acts, is amazing. And to hear a breaking bones album as "Condemned to Suffer", an onslaught of aggressiveness from the quintet SEPIROTH, is really a surprise.
It's their third album, so too much can be expected from them. It's a modern and brutal form of playing traditional Death Metal, what means an oppressive form of music with aggressive form of playing, but with a good care on the musical arrangements, and an exaggerated aggressiveness that can make years ache. The fast blast beats from modern days can be heard, besides the band uses very good contrasts between fast and slow tempos in many moments. Maybe this musical formula is eroded, but still works in their hands. Be prepared for an amazing, brutal and grasping energy flux into the ears.
Mendel Bij de Leij did the mixing and mastering of the "Condemned to Suffer", and the idea was to build a brutal and nasty sonority that could improve the natural aggressiveness of the quintet. But along such insight, things are sounding clean and defined, in a way that the listener can understand what's being played.
And be prepared but explicit brutality, because songs as "Embedded Defects" (a great work can be heard on bass guitar and drums), "Agonizing Subjection" (with a brutal and modern insight on the traditional Death Metal guitar riffs, and some Hardcore influenced parts can be heard as well), "Six Times a Charm" (the contrasts of tempos is amazing, indeed, and the slow moments, the very good work of the guttural vocals shows its value), "Selective Apocalypse" (a traditional Death Metal purgatory, filled with nasty guitars and piledriving tempos), and "River of Perdition" will make you shake your heads like Hell and blow your ears to bloody pieces.
Of course, SEPIROTH still can mature a bit more, but they're on the right path. Listen to and enjoy "Condemned to Suffer", but take care with your ears.
