Hellmouth
Science Of Sleep
Since the arrival of the school of German Metal, the scene was forever changed.
The Metal bands from Germany are characterized by a sound that is a bit more aggressive than the others schools throughout the world, even the traditional Heavy Metal bands. If you compare any bands from The New Wave of British Heavy Metal or from U.S. Metal with names as ACCEPT, you'll feel this difference I speak about clearly. Even the Thrash Metal giants DESTRUCTION, SODOM and KREATOR have this same natural born aggressiveness in their music. So what you can expect from the German quintet Death Metal/Deathcore band as SCIENCE OF SLEEP, with the DNA from German Metal?
If you take extreme brutality and put it in the form of music, you'll get "Hellmouth", their second album. The quintet plays in an aggressive and dirty form, but with very good instrumental technique (pay some attention to drums and bass guitar when you're listening the album). Their music flow thunderous and brutal all the time, but some melodic aesthetics can be heard as well, as it is the cement that binds the musical elements of their identity together. To record this type of album is not an easy task, but it was done in a good way. Although their music sounds a bit rawer than necessary in many moments, the sound quality of "Hellmouth" is good. You won't have problems understanding it, but if the production was done a bit more carefully, the results could have been even better than we have here. You must take caution with your ears, because the aggressiveness is really blasting through the speakers.
"Hellmouth" with its nasty guitar riffs and good rhythmic changes, the same elements that you'll find on the catchy ones "Purge" and "Columns of Greed"; the bolt of aggressive vocals heard on "Fed to Pigs" (the features Nico Webers as special guest), filled with a good contrast between fast and slow moments; the oppressive "Plainfield" with its hooking cadency and abrasive melodies; and the Deathcore onslaught heard on "Swamp" (with very good vocals and where Matthias "Matthi" Tarnath make some vocals as a special guest) are their best moments. They are a good band, with great potential, and twill surprise many fans of the style in the future. For now, "Hellmouth" is a good experience for our ears.
