The January Man
Scars Of Grace
From the United States, comes a new musical project called SCARS OF GRACE, with the album entitled "The January Man". This trio is a true heir of the so-called American Heavy Metal genre, or in other words, traditional Heavy Metal played with energy, very good melodies, and that amount of technique that is truly important for North American bands. But the trio uses a mix between Metal, Hard Rock and Rock, and using a modern outfit, so it is a personalized form of playing Metal. Of course, their musical formula was used sometimes before, but here it is as good as ever due their musical personality. It's heavy, melodic, and delivers very good melodies and choruses, with strong doses of energy.
The sound quality is good enough for us to understand what they are playing, and has the essential levels of weight and aggressiveness, but some tunes (especially on drums and bass guitar) could be better than what we hear on "The January Man". Of course, it could be better in these points, but it doesn't mean that the sound quality is bad. It's good, but not excellent. They have a very good set of songs on "The January Man", but the best ones are: the catchy and heavy "The Beggar" (fine work of vocals and guitars, indeed), the excellent guitars (especially the melodic solos) on the minimalistic "Into the Void", the tender and introspective moments on "Bridge of Time", the groove of the bitter and heavy "The January Man", and the very good instrumental work presented on "Shallow Souls" (that has some good rhythmic changes, showing a very good work from bass guitar and drums). It's a good album indeed, but they can do better. But for now, listening to "The January Man" is a very good experience.
