Methods to Delusion
Scalpel
The greater part of Death Metal bands has as their main reason to exist a need to make a gross and brutal form of music that can make our ears bleed. Some do it in a way that is simple and straight, without trying to be (and sound) more than they really are. From Hanson, Massachusetts (USA), comes a brutal Death Metal juggernaut called SCALPEL, and they really can destroy your eardrums easily with the explosive and nasty album called "Methods to Delusion".
It's just a mix between Old School Death Metal with Grindcore, but these guys really have personality. Yes, because their songs are really good and raw. Their main other reason to exist is to play a brutal and aggressive form of music, and because they don't seem to care about becoming a giant of the style, but doing things in this way, I think they will! The sound engineer that worked on "Methods of Delusion" is Colin Marston, and the work was done at Thousand Caves studios, while the band produced the album. The result is a raw sound quality that keeps the weight and aggressiveness on high levels. It's abusively brutal, but with an insight that the album needs to be understood, so the production made it sound as clean as possible. The work is very good in this aspect.
When the album starts to play, the walls tremble, and your neighbors start to complain. But be prepared, because the onslaught perpetrated by the nasty "The Cleaner" (with very good tempo changes and raw guitars), the brutal grasping rhythmic work shown by bass guitar and drums on "The Stink" and "Feeding the Worm", some bitter slow parts on "Methods to Delusion", and the excellent work from guitars and vocals on "Brooding in the Gloom" and "Lung Butter" will make your bones ache and your ears bleed!
It's a very good work from the band, indeed!
