Anomic Nation
Sarpedon

When we speak the name of Norway and talk about Metal done on that country, the first names that come to our minds are all from extreme Metal bands, especially those ones from Black Metal. But people forget to pay attention, for those lands gave birth (and still give) to many bands from experimental and melodic ways on Metal, as we could see on works from VED BUENS ENDE and BORKNAGAR. And coming not from extreme Metal but from Progressive Metal ranks, it's time for the newcomer SARPEDON, from Oslo, to come and face the arena with their first album, the excellent "Anomic Nation".
Playing as progressive and heavy as old SYMPHONY X did in some earlier works, the direction of their work is to a heavier and more direct sound, not with an ample range of musical influences. Their music is technical, has very good keyboards interventions, with excellent technique in all instruments and vocals, but they play something heavy and thunderous, with energy and a personalized musical work. But they're not creating anything new.
A very production was done on the album, and the result is a sound quality in a very good level, clear and heavy as it must be. And in a technical work like SARPEDON presents, it's a great and serious demand for their very existence. Progressive Metal needs this quality to be heard in all its musical elements.
Very good vocals, done in low tunes, excellent guitars and keyboards, and a tasteful work from bass and drums they offer in their eight songs, especially on "Anomic Nation", an anthemic song sign thundering riffs and very good vocals, the grandiose and melodic "The Lusk Letter" (another fine sample of a very good vocalist), the almost progressive and introspective "The Claustrophober", and the two parts of " My Mysteries Unwind", being the first part a melodic and introspective intro with clean voices and guitars until a point where the other musical instruments appears with some great parts from guitars, and the second part a long song, full of progressive keyboard parts and very good rhythmic basis.
Excellent!
