Ryders Creed
Ryders Creed
Let's establish one thing, above all: it was common in the 80's to call bands as MOTLEY CRUE and POISON "Californian Hard Rock." Today, we call them as Glam Metal. Hard Rock is a label to fit in bands with sonorities similar to AC/DC, that are near Metal enough to be a great influence but have catchy melodies and use a dirty sound. Now, we can speak about the RYDERS CREED work. Just a few seconds hearing to "Ryders Creed" are enough to have an idea of what these English guys are up to.
They have deep and strong roots in 70's Hard Rock, having as influences LED ZEPPELIN and AC/DC, but with some good and charming melodies filing their songs, along that silky aggressiveness that turns the album into a provocative and rebellious act. We could make a comparison with the work of THE DEAD DAYSIES, but not as a copy. No, RYDERS CREED has a strong personality, but dealing with an even more accessible musical work. The sound quality of the album is really very good, preserving the modern clarity, but searching for crude instrumental tunes (without those exaggerations we normally see on bands that emulates the sound of the 60's and 70's). It sounds organic, with a very good energy, but the sound clarity allows us to be entangled by their melodies.
The album is good in all songs, but as their best moments, we can point to the excellent "Headspace" with its catchy groove elements, the same features that are filling the outrageous "Promise" as well; that slow and energetic Rock 'n' Roll model that we find on "On the Road", the Southern Rock atmosphere of the ballad "The Only Thing I'm Good At" (the sliding picks on the guitar are very good, indeed), the easy and bitter melodies of "Ryder", and the catchy tempos of "My Life". We can say that RYDERS CREED will evolve even more, because their musical potential is not fully used on "Ryders Creed", so the future seems to be great for them.
