Pandemic Coverage & Old Schooling
Reawacan
As everyone already knows, the COVID-19 pandemic made the world stop, and the cost of the stupidity (of those who tried in vain to deny what science states, and that are leaders of their nations) was millions of innocent lives. In the future, there'll be endless discussions about the consequences of the pandemic to our minds (one of them is clear: a global fatigue to the survivors), but many tried something to work out as everything was on hold. And the German duet REAWACAN used such time to make some noise, as can be heard on "Pandemic Coverage & Old Schooling".
On this 4-track EP, the band worked on a form of classic Death Metal from the 80's, along with some melodic touches to temper the brutality and aggressiveness of their music, and some Death 'n' Roll touches. So be prepared to have your ears filled with a dose of nasty and abrasive energy. It's a Death Metal release, after all. All songs were recorded at home studio, with the studio works (mixing and mastering, and some re-amping on the guitars) done by the hands of the master Andy Classen at Stage-One Studio. The band focused on something nasty and abrasive, greasy and with an Old School approach on the outfit. It's a very good strategy to work in such way, indeed, and the final result is very good.
On their personal versions for "Ace of Spades" (with the tempos being presented on a bit slow approach than MOTÖRHEAD played, but's good) and "Dethroned Emperor" (an old classic from CELTIC FROST on its early days, carrying the same bitterness and oppressive weight). And "Into Proliferation" can be felt a deep and melancholic feeling come from its melodic lines weaved by the guitars (and with some great female vocals contrasting with the guttural vocals), as "Sad Serenade" brings to mind the old and bitter sad feeling with an oppressive weight from bass guitar an drums (along with some melancholic moments similar to those presented on the aggressive parts of KATATONIA's "Brave Murder Day" age).
In the end of all, the fans will love "Pandemic Coverage & Old Schooling", because it's a good release. But let's hope that REAWACAN can be back as soon as possible with some new material.
