The Crawling Chaos
Puteraeon
Well, this sound have many fans, but sometimes, to do old school Death Metal in the veins of the ancients like DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED, GRAVE and some others, is needed to have a strong personality, that makes you sound like yourself, and not to be a clone of any other bands. And "The Crawling Chaos", from Swedish quartet PUTERAEON isn't a bad album at all, but needs more of them into their music.
Of course they're good; no doubt about it, but their work seems a lot with many others we heard before. It's like trying to reinventing that earlier sound from Swedish Death Metal School I wrote above. But what is the main sense in doing what is already done?
The production, done by the band, and having Andy LaRocque on mixing and mastering gave an upgrade to their music, but it really respects too much the Old School aspects, even having a modern body (in terms of clarity and quality of sound). And the cover, done by Christoffer Fredriksson reflects the Lovecraftian influence of their lyrics.
But even with this all, the bands lacks of more personality. Songs like "In Dreamdead Sleep", "Pickmans Model" and "From the Ethereal Vortex" are good ones, but even this way, the feeling of "I heard this somewhere else" is clear... And it's a pity...
Guys, I always say that one doesn't need to make something new to be good. But personality is needed always, and I really want to hear more of you in the future, with a bit more of your souls into music.
