Purple Hill Witch - Celestial Cemetary album cover

I think that the retirement from our Forefathers from BLACK SABBATH must have caused a great commotion on underground. Personally, I thank for the opportunity to live in a time when they were on the earth, but everyone must stop, and every band must. Maybe it's the reason for this flood of Stoner/Doom Metal bands that is happening right now on Metal. PURPLE HILL WITCH is good name of the genre, and their second album, "Celestial Cemetary", is really good.

The main difference from the uncountable bands from the flood is that PURPLE HILL WITCH prefers a clean sound (not as bitter and raw as the other names from their same genre) and a preference for the use of very good melodies. Obviously we heard the same musical formula before in many occasions, but they show a very good personality. They aren't the eighth wonder in the world, but they're pretty good.

The sound quality was done in a way that they could keep their organic and raw instrumental tunes, but in a way that we can understand fully what they are doing. Obviously it has the essence of Doom Metal on the sound quality, but with an insight that the band's music must be understood. And this is what matters in the end.

There are seven good songs on the album, but the bittersweet melodies of "Harbinger of Death" with its tender melodies and good guitar riffs, the sinister funeral called "Celestial Cemetery" (very good vocals and great work from bass guitar and drums on the rhythmic session), the raw energy that is on "Menticide" along with very good melodic lines, and the bitter and dense atmosphere created by very good harmonies on "Burnt Offering" can be said as the album's best moments.

"Celestial Cemetary" is not a perfect album, but as PURPLE HILL WITCH seems to have a great musical potential, maybe it's just a matter of time until the trio can surprise us all...
