Primal Attack - Heartless Oppressor album cover

Since the 90s, and with the advent of internet and the commercial success of MOONSPELL, the Metal scene in Portugal became the focus of attention of many Metalheads. The Lusitanian bands showed how they deserved to be heard, and they really are very good. The Thrash Metal genre in the country is amazingly strong, due to names as TERROR EMPIRE. One more very good name of Lusitanian Thrash Metal arrives: the Lisbon based quintet PRIMAL ATTACK. Their second album, "Heartless Oppressor", is a massive and aggressive blow to our ears.

Following a more modern trend, having a strong scent of Groove Metal in their songs, the quintet's songs are very good pieces of musical massacre. But as well, the band shows very good melodies, especially in the guitar solos. But the whole musical features of the band focus on a dynamic and aggressive form of Thrash Metal, with fine musical arrangements and good instrumental technique. By the way, their musical work also has a strong and bold personality.

The sound quality of "Heartless Oppressor" is very good. It's brutal and has that essential rawness that fits in a great form in the songs. But don't get the wrong idea: you can understand clearly what they are playing, because the producer tried to put a good level of sound clarity on the album. Ok, I know that it's not perfect and the band deserved a better sound production, but if it's not perfect, it is truly good.

The Thrash Metal strike is what awaits you all on the nine songs of the album. Songs as the fast and thunderous "Red Silence" (showing a fine work of the guitars, that show very aggressive riffs), the massive weight shown on "Halfborn" (where bass guitar and drums are really amazing, putting a strong and bitter Groove presence on the rhythmic conductions) and on "The Prodigal One" (another song with clear Groove touches, and a very good mid tempo rhythm), the aggressive and modern tempos of "Strike Back" (this one with very good melodic lines and fine vocals), the modern elements presented on the brutal "Heart and Bones" (even some ALICE IN CHAINS influence can be heard on the clean vocals parts, and again, fine guitar solos), and the charming guitars and vocals parts on "Hypersonic Generation" can be said as their finest moments. But if we could say that there are fine moments in an excellent album as "Heartless Oppressor".

There's one thing left to say: os saúdo, irmãos de Além mar, com um trabalho tão bom.

Listen to it and let it explode in your ears!
