Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons
Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons
MOTORHEAD was a legend in the Rock 'n' Roll scene, and it's the father of all extreme Metal genres you can think. As well, the band left a great musical legacy that isn't easy to task about, because there are people that don't like Metal, but love the band due its nasty and thunderous sound. So what about the members of MOTORHEAD that are still with us? Talking about the guitarist Phil Campbell, that was in the band since 1984 until the Lemmy's passing (he went to the afterlife to start his own bar, mind you all), he is active, and doing a very good job with his new band, called PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS, with his sons and that is releasing a very good EP, called "Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons".
Of course you can't ask to a wild old stallion as Phil to make some modern musical style. You'll have a great deception if you do so, because here, you'll have the nasty and raw Rock 'n' Roll you can find, with very good melodies and catchy parts. Yes, their work is really good. Obviously you feel some MOTORHEAD influences, but what can you expect of a band of a musician (and composer) who stayed on it for such time spam?
The sound quality is really very good, because it's not something too elaborated, but not as raw and dirty as well, as many can think. It's in a midway between both, sounding with the right balance between the nasty aggressiveness of their style, the needed sound clarity and the weight of the songs. The band's secret is the tuning of each musical instrument, because they are extremely spontaneous. Unfortunately, as "Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons" is just an EP, we have only five songs.
Yes, I said that because after hearing these songs, you want more and more, because "Big Mouth" is a raw, accessible and catchy Rock 'n' Roll song with fine guitars and excellent vocals; "Spiders" is slower and heavy, aggressive with abrasive tunes, and a good rhythmic work from bass guitar and drums; on "Take Aim", you'll feel some guitars reminding MOTORHEAD riffs (but as I told before, it's expected), showing good vocals; "No Turning Back" really reminds the times of Lemmy's gang, with amazing nasty guitars and good melodic lines on vocals; and "Life in Space" closes the EP perfectly. Family that makes music united, keep united until the end!
