As long as Metalcore became a successful (commercially speaking) Metal genre, a lot of bands started to play it more and more. As always (and everyone knows that), the genre is extremely eroded due the use of the same musical formula, and boring because the lack of personality becomes too evident. And besides ORINOCO still have a long way to go because the EP "What a Relief" shows a band with potential, it's not a bad release, after all.

Their musical way could be said as the traditional Metalcore aggressive approach, using a modern and greasy approach (inherited from Groove Metal and New Metal influences), besides their songs have short lengths of time (Only "Waste" lasts more than three minutes). The energy is good, the weight and musical arrangements and all, but it lacks of a more personal approach, because their music looks like many other bands from the genre. Potential to be different they had, so the band just needs to use it. The sound production of the EP is very good, and it was done in the best way: it kept the modern ambiance and prompted a lot the greasy instrumental tunes, but in a way that the listeners can understand clearly what the band is being played.

The problem of the songs isn't that they're not good. They are, but the lack of a personal approach, something that can make them different from many other bands is where the essence of the problem lies. There are good ideas permeating "Dissolve" (very good drums conducting the breakdown tempos), "Weak" (very good abrasive Groove fed by very good guitar riffs), "Sheets", "Mimic" (bass guitar shows its presence here) and "Waste", but the way the things are gathered together seems the same that many used before.

Maybe the right tip of ORINOCO is to call an experience producer to give them a helping hand, because "What a Relief" shows that some sharpening would make miracles on their work.
