Melodic and introspective Doom Metal ways are hard to be tracked and tamed, especially if we are speaking now, almost 25 years when the style had an outbreak of exposition. To be honest, to do such kind of music you must have courage, and a great amount of creative power. But the North American band NORTHERN CROWN shows that this trial is not difficult for them on their first album, "The Others." They do a form of modern Doom Metal with great influence from the Heavy Metal elements from our forefathers from the 70s, and some touches from modern Metal styles. It's truly different from what we are used to hearing from bands of the style, and this is excellent, because Doom Metal needs some actualizations to face the future. Perhaps NORTHERN CROWN is showing that way.

Produced, recorded and mixed by Zachary Randall, having Frank R. Serafine and Stephanie Serafine as co-producers, and the hands of Luke Gilfeather on the mastering, "The Others" has a good sound quality, balancing the musical weight and the clarity needed on the instrumental arrangements, and did a fine work on gathering all their musical influences. It could be a little better, but it's good as it is. Having as guests Vincent Perez on organ, Evan Hensley on lead guitar, and Stephanie Serafine on backing vocals, "The Others" is a very good album, and you'll find excellent moments in each track, but the best ones are "With Malicious Eye" with its very good rhythmic changes and elegant work on keyboards and technical bass guitar, the bitter tempos and very good guitars on "Surreality (The Tell-Tale Mind)", the good experimental work heard on "No One Came to Mourn Me" (very good electronic effects and guitars), and the bitter weight presented on "Les Autres" (good drums). They are pretty good, and have talent to go furthermore into the unknown to expand limits.
