Panspermia
Nibiru
Once more, people must understand that experimental approaches must have a direction to guide a work. This must be said because to be experimental sometimes can be something hard to understand and to be swallowed by the listeners, even for those that are into unusual forms of music. And besides there are things extremely different into Metal universe, we can say that Italian trio NIBIRU is one of them, as can be heard on "Panspermia".
They are specialized on a weird and insane mix between the nasty aspects of Sludge Metal (a genre of it called Psychedelic Sludge Metal) with Drone Metal and Doom Metal elements. It's like a chaotic form of aggressive works from Industrial Metal from the 90's, but sometimes it's not so easy to understand. It's like to see a painting from post modern art, so there are many different subjective meanings. So be prepared.
The production of the album reinforces the Sludge Metal traces due the havoc imposed by the filth. But their musical work could use a cleaner outfit, for a better understanding by the listeners. To sound raw and filthy is not to sound in a way hard for the comprehension of the fans. Their musical work is based on contrasts between nasty and oppressive parts with nasty and noisy brutal moments. But their talent can be heard on "Alkaest", "Aqua Solis", "Efflatus" and "Kteis", but maybe shorter songs could have a better and catching grasp for the listeners (and this obsession for extreme long timespans is a weird feature of Sludge Metal, so throw it away).
Once more: NIBIRU does a good work, it's an undeniable thing. But to sharpen their songs in a better way, and improving their experimental side in a better for would make their work easier for the fans to understand. But it doesn't mean that "Panspermia" isn't a good release, but it's only for those that already knows their music.
