Deception (Reissue)
Needful Things
NAPALM DEATH, REPULSION and others helped to create and sharp what all of extreme Metal fans call as Grindcore, the mix between Hardcore elements with the Death Metal brutality and rawness. The genre is not easily swallowed by many Metal or Hardcore fans, but it gained respect and vast legions of followers, listeners of musicians. But 90% of Grindocre scene lay in the underground circuits, and it's not a surprise that just a few know the quintet NEEDFUL THINGS' (from Czech Republic) works, because these veterans are here since 1995. And this reissue for "Deception" comes to celebrate their birthday.
It's not a sin to label their work as classic Grindcore, as noise, fast and brutal as names as EXTREME NOISE TERROR, NASUM and DEFECATION, but always keeping in mind that were aren't in the 90's anymore, so the band created something that sounds modern and alive (but always with and intense and aggressive energy), but keeping the classic approach of the genre. So beware to keep your ears where they are when dealing with this album. The main source of this album's power lies in the sound production. All was conceived to make the band sounds alive, brutal and aggressive, but always keeping the things in a way that the listeners can understand what the quintet wants to express in their songs. But the impact of the sound mass that comes from this album is something that isn't seen every day.
It's not easy to label a set of songs as their best moments due the homogeneity of "Deception". But the nasty approach of "Judgment" (brutal piledriving drumming followed by a solid work from bass guitar), the excellent guitars of "Silence is a Key" and "Small Bonus", the impact of "Cunts Around the Brain" and "Extreme Way" (the contrasts between screams and grunts is a very good tool on their hands), the fast and brutal "Rich Bitch", the Hardcore evident influence heard on "Never More", and the massive of slow tempos of some moments of "To Be a Part" are the ones for a first time on the album.
Congratulations to NEEDFULL THINGS for their 25th anniversary, and I hope that "Deception" is a sign that they won't stop so earlier.
