I
Necropoli

Well, your Old Big Daddy here is not a great fan from Doom Death Metal. It's nothing against the style, don't get me wrong, but sometimes the way it is done can't satisfy myself. Of course works like PARADISE LOST's "Gothic" and MY DYING BRIDE's "Turn Loose the Swans" are two exceptions, and there are some more. Nut the Italian quartet NECROPOLI is extremely different from all those bands we are used to hear and understand, for "I" is not only weird, but very good.
The quartet occupies a space between slow tempos, aggressive music and experimental elements, so I can affirm to you all that this album is not easy to understand, breaking a great number of musical paradigms from Doom Death Metal. The low grunts are constant, as the guitar riffs are slow and bitter, but the bass guitars uses a very technical approach and drums uses very extreme tempos sometimes, as the keyboards appear to give a morbid atmosphere, but as well uses some effects here and there. So it's something very unusual.
The sound production is a bit raw and sometimes sounding hollow, but it gives them a heavy weight and very oppressive atmosphere, and the quality is not as bad as you can think. Of course it could be way better, but it's good enough for our understanding of their musical work.
As many bands from the style, they prefer to use very long songs to express their musical works, and give their contribution, so be prepared for an oppressive raid "Ashes of My Soul" (excellent drumming driving the song, along with very good riffs), "Inner Space" (introduced by electronic effects, so it becomes a violent funeral, with very good work from keyboards and vocals, along with great variations of tempos), the slower and well worked ones "A Step" and "Silence Awaits Me" (this one with some more extreme moments), and "Curriculum Vitae" are form a very good for a first coming.
Very good, and hope to hear some work of them again, but I repeat: it's not an easy work to like.
