Well, the traditions of Death Metal from United States scene are extremely well known for all.

Three of the style's pioneers are from the country, as POSSESSED (besides they used to call themselves as a Thrash Metal band on those days), DEATH and MASTER. So, the roots of Death Metal on USA scene are deep, and some excellent names are still appearing there. NECROCOSM, from Raleigh (North Carolina) is a very good name, coming and killing massively with their first album, "Damnation Doctrine".

They play in a very brutal way, using good guttural grunts and screams, and having a technical and heavy weight work done by bass guitar and drums. But in the band's guitars resides their creative strength. Their duo of guitarists is creating a massive and destructive arsenal of technical riffs, but with very good melodies on their solos. I don't dare to call their work as Melodic Death Metal due their bitter brutality, but they are a brutal band that uses melodies on their songs. And this very good, besides we saw it done in the past.

Jamie King is the right hand of the band on "Damnation Doctrine". He is the one who did the mixing and the mastering of the album, and he did a fine work. The balance between the needed clearness and the heavy aggressiveness is in a very good level, and the band had chosen wisely their instrumental tunes. And the result is a massive and heavy form of sound, but with a good level of clearness. And the art of Errol is really very good.

They keep destroying ears and necks as you hear their ten torpedoes in form of heavy music. But the aggressive and melodic brutality of "Sworn Hatred" with its brilliant guitars; the storming and fast song "Architects of Death" (with some good rhythmic changes and very good work from vocals), the abrasive "Octopian Eclipse" (with not so fast tempos, remind the earlier roots of Gothenburg Death Metal way, when it was dirtier and more aggressive, and again a fine work on guitars), the bittersweet melodic Death Metal song "Necrocosm" (what a great work from bass guitar and drums), the brutal "Force Fed Progeny" (again great work from rhythmic session, but the guitars are in a good shape as well), and the final instrumental "Plains of Inexistence".

It's a very good work, but I believe that they really can do better than we hear on "Damnation Doctrine".<
