It's common for fans (and writers) to deal with a release of a band that refuses to be labeled into a specific Metal genre. Maybe the crossing of elements can be a desirable thing to show that personality allows anyone to have a personal work and show something different from the usual. And it's what the German quintet MOJO BLIZZARD shows on "The Evil Crown", their first album. One can say that they blend elements from Heavy Metal (especially some traits of NWOBHM), Doom Metal, Stoner Metal/Rock, Hard Rock and many more, but with an actual and refreshed feeling flowing from the albums songs.

It's not a blasphemy to say that their music sounds as BLACK SABBATH on "Heaven and Hell" (heavy, technically in a good level, polished and organic), so be prepared, because energy, hooks, excellent arrangements and choruses are specialties of the quintet's music. The sonority of the album was conceived to align the actual defined and modern outfit of modern sound technologies used on studios with an organic feeling of the past, and the final result is really very good: it sounds as the band recorded live at studio, with few overdubs and editions. But one can hear and understand everything clearly.

Musically, the quintet delivers a form of music that, if it isn't new, is plenty of personality, as attested by songs as "I Won't Change" (many Hard Rock elements can be heard on the instrumental parts, especially on the guitar arrangements and riffs, and the vocals are really very good), "Never Wanted" (a song with Doom Rock features similar to those used back in the 70s, but what strong and solid rhythmic mass created by bass guitar and drums), "Something" (in some moments, the fans will deal with elements that were usual to LED ZEPPELIN, and the contrasts of ambiences are a lovely feature that enables the vocals to show how they're versatile), "Family Affair" (another heavy song with very good and hooking melodies), "Mother Mary" (the hooks on this one are hard to resist), and "The Evil Crown" (a song with tons of weight and a set of contrasts usual for Doom Metal acts as CANDLEMASS).

MOJO BLIZZARD seems to be born great, and their future is really shining. But "The Evil Crown" is a reality that needs to be heard and enjoyed by those with good musical taste.
