Forsaken by the Gods
Metalsteel
There are times when some bands cause confusion to the ears of the most experienced Metal fans. Today, it's not so difficult to hear a musical form that belongs to a particular country being played on another, so it can surprise the older fans. And the Slovenian quartet METASTEEL can do it, as "Forsaken by the Gods" shows.
Their musical can be said as simply traditional Heavy Metal, but influenced by the US Metal School of the second half of the 80's. It'll remind the listeners of names as JAG PANZER, ICED EARTH and others, but it's just their influences, and they're not copying what was already done, but they are playing things in their own way. It's nothing really new at all, but's good, balancing in a very good weight catchy melodies with a heavy musical weight. Yes, their musical work is really good. The sonority of "Forsaken by the Gods" is very good, because things are balanced in a very good way: it's heavy and aggressive, so the weight can be felt clearly. But the whole conception was to fit on a clear model, to make their music understandable for the fans, and it's really crystalline. It's a very good work, indeed.
The band has potential to make something even better that is shown on the album. But the valuable contribution given by songs as the combination of weighty and melodies shown on "Forsaken by the Gods" (the guitars really great on the riffs and arrangements), the charming energy that flows from "Dying Out" and "For the Future" (some NWOBHM influences can be heard on both songs, and some extreme vocals can be heard on some moments of the last one), the massive and groovy weight presented on "Drop by Drop" (bass guitar and drums are creating a massive rhythmic mass on this one), the good interpretative singing shown on "Becoming Human" (the vocals are perfectly laid on the instrumental parts), the melancholic touch clear on "Fallen Brother" (very good arrangements and contrasts), and the very good melodies of "The Passage of Time" (another very good work from the vocals, changing from aggressive tunes to melodic ones in a great shape) can't be denied.
Yes, the quartet did a very good work on "Forsaken by the Gods", but the musical potential shown by METALSTEEL is greater. Then, let's hope they'll use it as soon as possible.
