The old feeling of the 80's isn't lost at all, and anyone can bring it back with good music. But there's one thing that must be done: you can't copy what was already done, but do things on your own, to write songs in your own way. This point is extremely important, and many bands lost the track due the lack of this feature. But in the case of the Danish quintet MERIDIAN, they really hit the target with a massive torpedo with "The 4th Dimension", their latest album.

Their music is a blend between Hard Rock and Glam Metal influences with many aspects of classic Heavy Metal, a formula that exists since the early days of the 80's. But one thing must be stated NOW: they have personality, and shows in their songs, full of massive melodies, catchy choruses, and a perfect balance between weight, aggressiveness and musical accessibility. And it's not a sin to say that this album is perfect for fans of acts as SCORPIONS, PRETTY MAIDS, W.A.S.P. and others that did this blend on the 80's, but always with a personal insight on their musical work. The guitarist Marco Angioni produced, mixed and mastered the album (and he is a known producer that signs albums of TYGERS OF PAN TANG, IRON FIRE and others), and it was recorded at Angioni Studios. The sonority is a blend between the organic feeling of the past (due the instrumental tunes that seems as they just set the gears and played on), but with a clear insight allowing the fans to understand what's being expressed on the songs, but with a massive and weighty power. And it fits on their musical work.

The songs of the album are all amazing, showing a mature band that knows how they want to express their music. But for a first ride into this rollercoaster named "The 4th Dimension", the better ones are "Warning Shots" (the Hard 'n' Heavy feeling is clear, with heavy guitar riffs and arrangements of the guitars, but with a charming melodic chorus), "Life is Today" (the influences of melodic Hard Rock and AOR becomes evident in many moments, with another charming work of the guitars, but what lovely vocals), "Stay" (a strong scent of NWOBHM permeates its melodies due the weight presented, but the solid work of bass guitar and drums is amazing in some moments), "Follow Your Heart" and "Dreamers" (both are accessible songs that are hard to resist to sing along, and the tunes of the vocals are really great), "The Road Back to Hell" (another song full of a Hard Rock/Glam Metal appeal on its weight, with an oppressive work of the guitars), and the abrasive "The Fourth Dimension". But all the songs are easy to listen to and to assimilate.

To hear "The 4th Dimension" is an amazing pleasure, and it's not a sin to say that MERIDIAN, along with others, is doing an update to the genre. Listen to this album and see if these words are a depicting the truth or not.
