Cause & Effect

MASCOT PARADE is band that originated from Västerås, Sweden, formed in 2007 by Henrik Bringås and Staffan Andersson. "Deathmatch" was their debut album, released in 2008, and here they are marching forward with their second, "Cause & Effect".
"The Uninvited Guest", not of MERCYFUL FATE, stormed with a variety of grooves scorched by the low tuned guitaring and intense rhythm work. I had a feeling that I was listening to a TOOL song fronted by a KORN like vocalist. This one can dig deep into one's soul with a mystic atmosphere, surely one of my favorites. "Lost In Salvation" is even more Doomy yet staring with a blind eye on progression, a true hypnotizing song. Henrik Bringås, on vocals, displays quite an unusual voice. Though taking the Alternative route, here it was heard to find an contrast to his performance. On "Devil/Angel" there is a fine mixture of styles, a reminder of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, with melodic singing and kick ass groove / Doom riffages. The guitar solo is so great above the crushing drums. "Bugs & Hope" shares similarities to BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DIO, OZZY OSBOURNE and also to BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB with utterly down tuned guitars and low end singing. There is a different style of playing & totally assorted emotions, even psychedelic at times. The self-titled effort, "Cause & Effect", lasts over 10 minutes with interesting riffs & low, heavy sound with similarity to KORN or SLIPKNOT. The chorus is melodic with hallucinogenic type singing. "Coexist" is another epic, displaying the same haziness of 60s and early 70s Progressive Rock, KING CRIMSON. A true mover, a journey between vintage and modern Rock / Metal. The most melodic & energetic song "Norma" is rather basic in comparison to the others, highly enticing.
MASCOT PARADE released a challenging album. I could sense an artistic production an attention to details. No doubt that in a way they have been developing their own style. Each song is diverse and presents mixed and complex emotions and state of minds. Henrik Bringås proves that his voice is amazing. I can't really think why not gulp this album over and over.
