The name of Sweden is heard between Metalheads as a Metal nation due the great number of good bands that came from there since the 80's. But as all countries in the world, sometimes we have to deal with newcomers that have musical talent, but must lapidate their own talent. That's the case of MALIGNER, a trio from Malmö that comes storming with their first album, called "Attraction to Annihilation". They are playing a form of Death/Thrash Metal (in their case, a Death Metal band with some influences of Thrash Metal) that shows a good amount of energy, good work in every musical instrument and vocals (the tunes are different from what we usually hear), but they need to improve a bit more, because their songs are good, but not outstanding, being not under all that is being done on the genre, but aren't above as well. We can hear that they have musical talent, but aren't using it fully.

The album was mixed and mastered by Mattias Persson, with the band doing the sound engineering. They have chosen good instrumental tunes for their songs, but it still sounds a bit cruder than the right point. It seems that the band produced the album, so it would explain the things. It could be better, besides it's not bad. Another problem: maybe it's due the lack of an experienced producer, because they have the tendency of playing fast in every song (not all of them, because "Beyond the Repair" is focused on a slower approach). But the musical strength of "Oath-bound" and its good guitar's arrangements, "Lust for Fire" and some good harmonies, the slower parts of "Disposable", and the brutal and bitter "Beyond Repair" are the songs where they show that they can do better than we hear on this album.

Don't get me wrong, because I didn't say/write that "Attraction to Annihilation" is a bad album. It's good, but these guys can make something even better.
