Since the 90's, the Italian Metal scene became a massive success due many Heavy Metal bands that arose there, especially RHAPSODY OF FIRE and names in such genre (besides names as DEATH SS and BULLDOZER are a little older), and many eyes turned to the country as a consequence of such feature. Today, Italian Metal scene shows a great musical diversity. But the work of MALAMORTE shown on "God Needs Evil" is somewhat unexpected.

Their early albums showed a more Heavy/Black Metal vein, but here is based on a form of traditional Heavy Metal usual on the 80's, sharing some common elements with names as HELL, SATAN and even MERCYFUL FATE, but with some clear touches of JUDAS PRIEST in some moments. It's melodic and aggressive, with very good instrumental work that creates many catching moments, but the vocals needs to improve a little more (just a little). Obviously that it won't sound new for many Metalheads, but for those who like older Metal formats, "God Needs Evil" will have a strong appeal.

The production sounds bit stiff for the ears, maybe showing that the band needs a producer to guide their sonority in a proper way. It's heavy, clean and defined, but a bit artificial in some moments. But don't get the wrong idea: it's not bad (not, it's the opposite), but could be way better, because their music needs.

The album shows very good songs, a mature work, indeed. But the musical melodic strength of "The Demons that Devour Your Soul" (very good melodic guitars, but with a heavy appeal), the catchy tempos of "The Sinner" (very good and heavy work from bass guitar and drums), "They Shall See the Truth" (with that fine blend between catching melodies and weight that is usual for German bands as ACCEPT, but with some elements that are heard on older MERCYFUL FATE albums in some arrangements), the crushing heavy weight of "Morbid Temptation", and the striking fast aggressiveness of "God Needs Evil" are the best ones from the album.

Fixing the sonority and working the vocals in a better shape, and MALAMORTE will be great. For now, "Good Needs Evil" is really a good work.
