Making Monsters - Bad Blood album cover

What we call Alternative Metal/Rock can be defined as one of the styles that arose in the 90s, with clear influences from the 60s and 70s, but with a modern touch and great emphasis on the melodies, and being accessible to a broader part of the public. We can say that the Irish band MAKING MONSTERS really fits in the label, as we can hear on their first EP, called "Bad Blood".

It's really nasty in some parts, but keeping the melodic atmosphere. Their catchy melodies can open doors to their work, but they are still a bit rawer than the needed. But they are talented, showing very good songs, evading long durations, and using an ample range of musical influences to make their music. But their greatest musical quality is to use a modern and impacting form of weight on their songs, becoming aggressive and filled with energy in some moments, a feature that I truly recommend to explore a bit more in the future.

Produced, mixed and mastered by Neal Calderwood, their songs are sounding aggressive and dirty as a Rock band must be, but the level of clarity is enough for us to understand what they are playing. It could be way better, but let's speak the truth: they're an independent band, and only musicians know the difficulties to release an album with a good sound quality. "Bad Blood" is really sounding fine. Their musical talent is evident in each song, but the nasty heavy weight on the aggressive and modern "Bad Blood" (filled with very good vocals and a hooking melodic groove), the good dynamic between instrumental parts and vocals on "Better" (yes, the vocals are great, using melodic clean tunes with some rawer moments), the catchy heavy parts from "We Aren't Living" (very good chorus), and the aggressive "Noodle Sync" (a fine work from bass guitar and drums, and even some incredible nasty and near guttural tunes on vocals can be heard).

They have potential, and let's hope to hear their best form next time. But "Bad Blood" is a good release.
