Lucifer's Hammer - Beyond the Omens album cover

The first thing I have to say on this review: don't be confused.

Yes, because this is not the North American quartet that played Black/Death Metal, because they aren't back.

No, this LUCIFER'S HAMMER comes from Santiago (on Chile), and plays a melodic and traditional way into Metal, as their first album, called "Beyond the Omens" is here to proof.

Their musical work is basically what we already know from NWOBHM, especially from bands as IRON MAIDEN, DIAMOND HEAD and SATAN. It's truly far of being something new or outstanding. But it's good to hear their mix between very good melodic vocals; the guitars are showing fine riffs and good solos, and the rhythmic session (bass guitar and drums, for those who don't know what I mean) is heavy and with some touches of technique. Obviously, it has some energy and aggressiveness, but it's tender and melodic, the more traditional you can think of.

If we speak about the quality of the sound that we hear, there are not great complains. It flows clean and heavy as they can be, but with some dirtiness that really reminds a lot those times from NWOBHM, as the tunes are good, but not as they could be. But I must remind you all: here on Latin America, to record albums in very good conditions is truly expensive. But I state again: it's not perfect or supernatural, but good enough for the band to show their musical work.

The melodic and fine "The Hammer of the Gods" (with its very good guitar duos and fine melodies on vocals, reminding a bit IRON MAIDEN from "Iron Maiden" times), the good work done by bass and drums heard on "Black Mysteries" (another melodic song, with some amount of energy that is incredible), the heavy weight of the slow tempos shown on "Shinning Blade", the good guitar duos that the energetic "Lucifer's Hammer" shows, and the strong and heavy work of the band as an unit on "Warriors" can be named as their best moments, but personally, I think the album works as whole.

They are good name from Chile.<
