Thornstar
Lord of the Lost

How would you describe the sound you will form if you mix Gothic Rock, Doom and Industrial? Well, that's what LORD OF THE LOST is all about. Parading thirteen tracks, this 2018 offering "Thornstar" will satisfy your innermost desire for a heavy, dirty and dark rock. Major influences of industrial and Gothic rock are what predominantly dictate the overall musicality of this album. On the part of the vocals, vocalist __'s voice and way of singing is a kind of similar to those of Vilie Valo and Peter Steele. His occasional screams also enhance the dark rock vibe of the album. Tracks "Black Halo" and "Haythor" are perfect examples to explain the album's features - full of heavy and mid-tempo melodies, low-pitch singing with occasional growls, riffs featuring the grooves of industrial metal, and classic Gothic lyrics.
Opening track "On This Rock I Will Build My Church" is the most aggressive song among all. The screams can be heard right from the start, the riffs are really evil sounding, and the singing is really sinister and haunting. Meanwhile, "In Our Hands" shows more of their rock side, with its easy and chill rhythms and a calmer singing. All of those are done without getting out of their attitude and character of course. It really sounds like any H.I.M. song crossovered with TYPE O NEGATIVE. Fifth track "Morgana" is catchiest and mightiest among others for its catchy tune and individually progressive form. The transitioning of the screams accompanied with the drum breakdowns in the choruses and pre-choruses is neat and flawless. This song actually sounded like something power metal-ish.
Aside for the already mentioned highlights, the rest of the songs kind of sound the same, all of equally above average level. Since the sound they wanted was established in the first four songs, they played through it in different approaches and applied it to each and every song that followed.
