Nuclear Soul
Lionize
Since the coming of this trend of Old School Rock and Metal, a great number of bands focused their efforts on this path. Once again: if you want to play such old musical form, you must have a strong personality. Music comes from the soul, so if you are copying other bands works, I have to question what you have inside of your heart. But some bands do a fine form of music in these old genres, like the North American band LIONIZE. "Nuclear Soul", their latest release, is a fine Classic Rock album.
Yes, you'll find on "Nuclear Soul" the same old and good Classic Rock, but with some influences from Rock 'n' Roll and Blues in the same vein that DEEP PURPLE, LED ZEPPELIN and other names from the past, with great emphasis on the keyboards psychedelic parts, and fine melodies. Of course the atmosphere of the album takes us to the past, but their musical work has that exact amount of energy and personality. Yes, it's good, and very good, indeed. The sound quality of the album was built to be a perfect match between their organic and greasy music with the modern sense of clarity. Of course it could be better, but it's very good in the way it is. And the raw atmosphere of old days is given by the instrumental tunes that were chosen.
Of course they need to give a step forward and evolve into something more personal, because their musical influences are extremely clear to our ears. But they on the right path, and songs as the bluesy and "zeppelinean" "Darkest Timeline" (what very good guitars), the raw energy that flows from the melodies of "Face of Mars", the catchy presence of that introspective harmonies on "Fire in Athena", the dense and bluesy scent of "Ain't It a Shame" (very good work from vocals and keyboards) and "Let You Down" (this one has very good clean guitar parts and fine vocals filled with strong emotions), and the savage Hard Rock shown on "Blindness to Danger" (a very good song, where bass guitar and drums are excellent) will have a good time and the idea that a good name is on the rise.
LIONIZE is a charming band, and let me tell you: they are way better that 70% of the known bands from this same genre.
