Floating in Timeless Streams
Lie In Ruins
Today, it's truly difficult to find Metal genres on their purest essence. This feature happens due the diversity of musical influences of a musician bears, and when a band is founded, this mix of influences becomes a chaotic maelstrom. That's nothing wrong with that, because this aspect is what enables Metal to evolve and to keep alive. And such aspect can be heard on the music of the Finnish onslaught bearers from LIE IN RUINS, as can be heard on "Floating in Timeless Streams".
Their musicality is based on an aggressive and brutal form of Death Metal, but something from Black Metal is evident on the blend (as can be heard on some shrieks and funereal ambiences), along with some traditional features from Finnish Metal scene (as some darkened melodic touches). Their music is aggressive and thundering, a blow in the face, but the musical arrangements creates a musical diversity that shows that the band's songs are written with heart. And there's a violent and energetic hook flowing from this album as well.
Henri Sorvali is the name of who took care of the mixing and mastering, and he created something harsh and brutal (to make the band's music gain sense and identity, but to be organic as well), but always with the attitude that their musical work must be understood to create synergy between the album and the listeners. It could be better (because the band's music deserves), but it's very good.
Although the band started back in 1993 under the name of DISSECTED, it ended on an unknown time, and came back in 2002 with the name they use now. So it's not a surprise to hear the level of experience show on songs as "Earth Shall Mourn" (a massive and fast track, with abrasive guitars and good grunts), "Spectral Reams of Fornication" (where some Death/Black Metal elements appears in the middle of the musical massacre imposed by bass guitar and drums), "(Becoming) One with the Aether" (where some catchy Hardcore elements that are traditional to the genre appears, and some nasty shrieks appear), "The Path" (some slow moments reinforces the Black Metal elements of their music, and this nasty ambience created by the guitars is really excellent), "Suffocating Darkness" (the good slow rhythm shows a solid work on bass guitar and drums, while the fast moments are done by amazing Death Metal hooks), and "Where Mountains Sleep" (with some refined technical arrangements in the middle of bone-crushing aggressiveness). These are the best songs, but the entire album is very good.
LIE IN RUINS really has a great musical work to show, and the extreme Metal fans must hear "Floating in Timeless Streams" at any cost.
