L'Hiver En Deuil - Ter Aarde album cover

And Belgium, a fertile land in terms of Metal, gives birth to one more Metal son, now with the quintet L'HIVER EN DEUIL (with means "Winter In Mourning"), that make their breakthrough with the EP "Ter Aarde".

Their music is what some call Depressive Black Metal (these labels are really a shot in my balls, believe me!). Speaking with other words, it's Black Metal more focused in something more atmospheric and harsh, abdicating from fast tempos and musical violence to a more morbid and melancholic music. And the quintet shows that they really have talent to do so.

A harsh sound production is what awaits us all, but it's not so bad at all, for we can hear the instruments the way they must sound, and in Black Metal, it's a trend mark for the style, mind you all. If it was too clean, the result could be not as good as it is now. The artwork is very simple, a picture of a misty forest, reinforcing the depressive atmosphere of their music.

Their 5 tracks (the first one is an intro, the last an outro) exceed five minutes, are fine, but could be better. And the best ones are "Ocean Black" (oscillating in a good manner between depressive and harsh moments), the fine piece that "As" is (with some astonishing vocals and good drumming), and the long and well worked "Gekluisterd" (pay attention to guitar riffs and bass).

They really do a fine job, but we hope they can improve more and more, for L'HIVER EN DEUIL is a good promise for a near future.
