Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation

Kryptoxik Mortality

A new potential great name for Brutal Death Metal.
January 24, 2024

When the 80s vanished, the completion of being the most fast and brutal of bands was left behind. But during the rise of Death Metal in the 90s, as a need to be heard in the middle of many bands that were arising from the depths of the underground and have a chance, some bands brought back such need to be the outmost brutal band of all times, and acts as MORBID ANGEL on “Covenant” age, CANNIBAL CORPSE, SUFFOCATION and others paved the way to what would be Brutal Death Metal. Today, bands are trying more and more to expand limits and try to bring some refreshment to the genre, as the North American quartet KRYPTOXIK MORTALITY. In their latest release, “Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation” (their second album), the band bears some Old School Death Metal features (on the instrumental tunes, especially on the guitars) with a musical embodiment that is on a Brutal Death Metal way (extreme low tunes on the vocals’ tunes, slow tempos) and their technical appeal is into a Slam Death Metal way (use of chromatic riffs, palm muting and broken rhythms).

One can have many different ideas into their music, but one statement must be heard: their musical work isn’t easy to be swallowed, even by Death Metal fans. The sonority of the album bears the needed distortion and brutal aspects of the genre, while keeping some nasty tunes (as written above). Such sound quality allows the quartet to deliver a distorted and massive music in emphasis in the brutal side of it, but in a way that can be understood. It’s not perfect, but a good work. And the sickening artwork for the cover created by Val Denumbra really depicts that the hearers will deal with a Death Metal acts.

“Fetid Human Incubation” (that resembles traditional Brutal Death Metal hitting outfit in some moments, especially in the faster moments), “Impending Monolithic Desolation” (that follows the same tendency of the previous song, but with a better work on bass guitar and drums), “Ingesting the Wretched” and “Extraterrestrial Desecration” (with more clearly slower moments are depcted, with extremely low grunts filling all the spaces), “Metaphysical Dissection” (good guitars riffs boost the disgusting and disturbing ambience of the song), and “Multiversal Enigmatic Deformities” will do the due presentations. The band still have some points that can be better worked (they still rely a lot on Brutal Death Metal elements, even with potential to do things on their own), but it’s on the right path.

For fans addicted to brutality without limits, “Interdimensional Calamitous Extirpation” will be a delicious release. And KRYPTOXIK MORTALITY is a promising name, indeed.
