Korpse - Unethical album cover

The Netherlands gave to the world excellent Death Metal bands in the past. Names as GOREFEST, SINISTER and GOD DETHRONED became true legends into the scene due their excellent and different works. There are other good names in the country, but not all of them. KORPSE is a band that, even with enormous potential, is disappointing by what we hear on "Unethical", their second album.

Very good technique in each instrument (the drummer is an octopus!), vocals with that vocals "hey-I'm-stripping-a-pig-alive-and-choking-it-with-its-entrails", heavy and really brutal insight as their musical style demands (they are a Brutal Death Metal quartet), but their songs are extremely common. There's nothing different than thousands of bands we heard before. The sound quality is good. Yes, the producer did a fine work, because you can understand what the band is playing with no problem. It's raw and brutal, but in a way we can hear all the instruments. Just the tunes on the drums and bass guitar could be a bit better, but they aren't bad at all.

As I said previously, the quartet has talent and can do better work, but here they seem to be in the shadow of their musical influences. They need to be themselves, to express what they have inside their hearts. Songs as "Collateral Casualties" (with very good drumming), "Deformed to the Extreme" (some good guitar riffs can be heard on it), "Stoneage", the slow "Unethical" and the brutal duo "Retaliation" and "Monastery Waste" show clearly how they're just wasting their time and efforts doing what was already done, sounding like many others are doing. And even being good songs, we have the idea that we are hearing the same track in many moments.

Better lucky on the next offering...
