Sometimes, people can't have the clear idea of the differences between Doom Metal and Stoner Metal, and honestly, it's not so simple do define things and say who is who. It's not saying that 'Doom Metal is a slow paced genre with long songs' and 'Stoner Metal must be filthy', for such conceptions can't be sustained: great bands throw them all in the garbage can as they want to do things on their won. And such definitions aren't a stone-carved thing, and one doesn't to obey them just for fans' complacency. And maybe the Italian trio KING POTENAZ is here to break such limits, as shown on their first album, "King Goat". Their music could be easily be labeled as Doom Metal due the slow paced tempos and 'sabbathic' they learned (and work them out in their own way, mind you all), with a more melodic accuracy that flows from the speakers, but their music isn't solely slow in tempos or uses long time spams (two of them are shorter than 5 minutes); they sound organic and handmade due their way of recording things, but's not as distorted and filthy and some fans would like (more details about the sonority will be discussed below).

It's abrasive and nasty, but melodic and catching, and a raw energy flows from the band's music in a way that entangle the hearers easily. The sonority is something expected of a band that values its music: it's defined and anyone can understand easily what's being played. In other hand, it's raw and bears the organic feeling that only those who evades endless digital editions can have, in a similar way to a recording done in few takes. The band shows the lessons learned when hearing to albums as "Master of Reality" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". It's a fine work of Stefano Manca (recording), and Roberto Stomeo (mixing, mastering). And there's a special guest on the album: Sibilla (a known graph artist of Italy) made the vocals on "Pazuzu (3:33)".

Their music shares similarities with Occult Rock acts as THE DEVIL'S BLOOD, old GHOST and BLOOD CEREMONY, but with a heavy Doom/Stoner amount of weight, what mean the fans can expect great things of the band in the future. For now, their amazing musical potential is depicted on songs as "Pyramids Planet" (experimental Psychedelic Rock and Doom Rock arrangements on the guitars are mixed with brutal and oppressive rhythms that hypnotizes the fans, with many contrasts being presented), "Goat Rider" (some faster and abrasive tempos can be heard, but with excellent melodic groove, and what lovely lysergic arrangements on the guitars), "Pazuzu (3:33)" (the contrasts between the acid and bitter instrumental with the vocals are amazing), "Moriendoom (La ballata di ippolita oderisi)" (a more introspective and oppressive set of ambiences is presented, with very good vocals), and "Dancing Plague". It's not a matter of changing things, but of evolving, but as it's their first album, their evolution is something expected.

KING POTENAZ did a very good work on "Goat Rider", but as they can do better than is shown on it, fans can't wait for the future as they hear this piece of oppressive music!
