The mix Death and Black Metal influences can be said as the most creative fusion on extreme Metal. Yes, because you can do your mix as you want, and not following patterns and repeating the formulas that already exist. Yes, it can generate great music sometimes. But there are those bands that are talented, but need some improvements. And this is the case from the German trio KHTHONIIK CERVIIKS, because their first album, "SeroLogiikal Scars (Vertex of Dementiia)" shows clearly what I mean.

Their mix between Death and Black Metal is really good, having that aggressiveness and brutality that it demands to be, but besides their talent, there are moments when the band seems to respect too much the ancients of the past, and keep their work into what is already done. But we can have the clear idea that the band can do much more than they show on the album. But there are moments when their talent becomes clear, as we can hear on some parts of "Miindwrecked (Project Eigengalaxy)".

Maybe their greatest Achilles' knee is their sound production. The quality is too raw, and this doesn't mean that they are too aggressive. It's not fair with their musical work such sound quality, because sometimes is truly difficult to understand their work due the filth on the tunes and recording.

"SeroLogiikal Scars (Sequence 1.0: Vertex of Dementiia)" with its good guitars and rhythmic changes; some good and sinister melodies show on the guitars on the slow parts of "Miindwrecked (Project Eigengalaxy)", the harsh and aggressive grunts and rhythmic session on "SeroLogiikal Scars (Sequence 2.0: Veiled Viiral Vektor)" (with very good contrast between fast moments and slow ones), and the brutal weight shown on "Cranial Leftoverture (Angel's Pyramiid)" can be said as their best moments. But with such long songs, they could have shown more personality.

They are good, but can do better than we hear on the album.
