Colossus
Kayleth
Stoner Metal/Rock is really quite a trend in the underground scene!
There are countless bands from this particular genre arising from out of nowhere, and when such things happen, unfortunately, we can't hear all of them. This tsunami of bands when tendencies are common always makes us lose good albums, and it's a pity. Good bands as the Italian veterans KAYLETH that is releasing their new album, "Colossus".
Imagine a mix between BLACK SABBATH in their melodic moments on their earlier works with some MONSTER MAGNET load and Space Rock touches. Yes, this is what they are about, and although you can have the feeling that you heard it before (because the band isn't playing something new at all), their melodies are charming, and this raw mass of Stoner music is really very good to hear.
The sound quality, obviously, is really crude. The tunes are abrasive in a way that reminds us of those older and classic albums from the 70s, but with a heavier solid sound (remind that on the 70s, many albums had a hollow quality of sound). But this nasty production doesn't damage the understanding of the songs, and fits in what they want to do.
Another good point of their work is that their songs aren't as long as many bands from this same genre use to have. So, let yourself be seduced by slow and bittersweet arrangements of "Lost in the Swamp", the abrasive and heavy weight of the guitars on "Forgive", the good and intense Groove that can be heard on "Colossus", the Rock 'n' Roll/Space Rock scent of "So Distant" (a very good song that shows fine work from bass guitar and drums), the nasty melodies of "Mankind's Glory" with its slow and hypnotic rhythm, the catchy riffs and good melodic vocals of "Solitude", and the fine and dense melodies of the introspective parts of "The Escape".
If you're a Stoner Rock/Metal fan, check "Colossus" as soon as you can. You won't regret it!
