Kamala - Consequences of our Past - Vol 1 album cover

We live in a time that we usually see a lot of bands re-recording some old songs of their past releases. To some of them, it's a way to record them in a better and proper manner, to give them the chance they deserve. From Brazil, the trio KAMALA, from Campinas (SP) is back for one more round with "Consequences of our Past - Vol 1", an EP with six songs re-recorded. After "Mantra" was released and showed that the band evolved a lot, they looked back to their past and had the idea to record some of their old songs with the band's new outfit (that is a modern Thrash Metal format with some extreme Metal influences). Their experience, along with the good creative moment that they are showing now, made the songs even better, with new arrangements, mature and with a totally new outfit. Only the songs of "Mantra" and from their Demo Tape "Corrosive" were left out. Shorting the words: they are excellent in this new form!

Like "Mantra", their previous release, "Consequences of our Past - Vol 1" was recorded, mixed and mastered on Studio RG, at the city of Americana (SP), by the hands of Guilherme Malosso. So this modern, heavy and aggressive sound quality (with a very good clarity sense guiding it al) made everything sounds great and fresh, like new born songs. The artwork for the cover is a work form the French artist Vorace KahnaBaal, that is really amazing and catches the spirit of the EP, using only the contrast between gray, black and white.

Of course "Kamala", "Fractal" and "The Seven Deadly Chakras" are great albums, but their songs could be better. But now, we can't see something that isn't perfect, because the new insight of the band's style, and this modern sound quality, made them improve. By the way, in this manner, a link between the band's past and present is created. Prepare yourself for the skull crushing! From their first album, "Kamala", we have the aggressive and bitter "Take Away", that is denser and filled with a bitter energy (and showing a great work from bass guitar and drums), and "Endless/Shame", that shows some very good experimental elements, with great vocal duets and amazing guitars.

From their second full-length, "Fractal", they had chosen "Purify" (filled with excellent melodies, a catching insight and with a very good technique, along with an oppressive work from bass guitar and drums); and this same melodic approach can be heard again on the bitter and heavy "Consequences", that is filled with a melancholic feeling in some moments (that come from the fine harmonies created by the guitars, and pay attention to the fast work on the bass drums).

Finally, from their third album, called "The Seven Deadly Chakras", they play the whipping and furious "Third Eye", where we can see the band's musical elements that will bloom on "Mantra", with modern and heavy guitar work (that shows very good catching melodies), and an abusive weight and a simple (yet very good) technical approach that flows from "Root", with a good chorus, very good vocals, and another fine exhibition from bass guitar and guitars. "Consequences of our Past - Vol 1" has the same positive energy that we have found on "Mantra", and it is one of the greatest EPs of this year. Soon, it will be available on all digital platforms, and at the same time, it makes us anxious for their new work that is being prepared by now.
