Uninvited Guests
Jameson Raid
Heroes are important to our lives, always, because they always inspire the best of us and make us push harder, hit stronger.
On this world we live, there are heroes in every day works, and even in Heavy Metal we can see some of them. Or how you would call a band that worked hard from 1975 to 1982, and then come back on 2008 and only now releases their first full length?
Yes, this is the case with JAMESON RAID, from UK, that is releasing their first album, "Uninvited Guests", after many Demos, Singles and EPs. Their dream came true, but what we could expect from their work?
To be honest, here you'll find a traditional way of playing Heavy Metal, in the same vein from those bands that came from England before NWOBHM bands. So their musical orientation is a Heavy Metal/Hard Rock, with generous doses from melodies (that turns their work really accessible for a broader public), but the contrast between the very good melodic vocals with the heavy and aggressive instrumental work is something really good. And the album presents as well fine guitars, and an orthodox rhythmic kitchen. No, there's nothing new at all, but is very good and personalized, in a way if you put their album to play, and some bands that nowadays are trying to do the same (without knowing what those times meant to be), you'll feel the difference.
The band did the production for "Uninvited Guests" along with Dave Rothan (who did the recording, the mixing and mastering as well). So, the sound quality of the album is really very good, clear and heavy in the way they need. So we really can take the best of their work.
"Mr. Sunset" with its heavy and aggressive approach and melodic vocals, the equally heavy "Uninvited Guests" (both with very good aggressive riffs and melodic vocals), the thunderous "Breaking Point" and its solid rhythmic basis (bass guitar and drums are really doing fine here), the energetic "Roll On Tomorrow" (hooking chorus and very good vocals), "SS Idol Tearz" and another very good work from vocals and guitars (with very abrasive riffs), the harming heavy weight work from drums presented on "Maze Of Rats", and the thunderous "9 Reasons".
An excellent album and hope this quartet won't leave us waiting for more 40 years until their next album.
