Iron Gypsy (Reissue)
Iron Gypsy
I'm an atheist, so I don't believe in gods or that anything is sacred. I believe that music is just a manifestation of man's artistic creativity. That's the reason that I beat hard on bands that copies those works from the past, and the reason for I have my personal concerns about re-releases of materials that were lying forgotten on the sands of time. All of this to explain why Canadian trio IRON GYPSY's EP "Iron Gypsy" is something that I wouldn't expend my personal time to hear.
On this release, their only two releases, the EPs "Iron Gypsy" and "Take #2" were fused on one single disk. And their musical work is based on the same clichés from those days. Yes, the trio didn't honor their Canadian Metal roots, being just a copy from US Metal bands that had their influences based on JUDAS PRIEST and on Hard Rock from old times, without anything that could make their musical work compete with VICIOUS RUMOURS, MALICE, THE RODS, BITCH and many others from USA.
The original sound quality is nothing bad, but nothing extremely good as well. It's an organic and dry sound quality that really seems a Demo Tape. It's clear and heavy, but with that clear moldy sonority that makes both EPs sound outdated. I'll repeat the same words from bands on this way: a good producer could have done something good on shaping their musical identity, because "Hell and Back", "For the Crown", the raw energy from the Hard'n'Roll song "Streetwize", the hooking tempos of "Now or Never", and the energetic "T.A.W." show that these Canadian guys have talent. But they couldn't have gone far without a helping and guiding hand.
A tip for the labels: if you really want to make some new releases that are worthy of your efforts, I believe that older works from ANVIL, RAZOR, THE EXALTED PILEDRIVER, and some other bands from Canada deserve a chance.
