Daggers and Dragons
Infinity's Call
To fuse musical elements of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and Progressive Rock is a method that many have tried throughout the years. Obviously, it's not hard to see that RUSH is a forefather in this genre, and names as QUEENSRYCHE or FATES WARNING as pioneers of this mixing. But on the German band INFINITY'S CALL's musical work, we have a different insight, as their album "Daggers and Dragons" shows. Instead of Heavy Metal, they used Classic Rock features, so it's not so difficult to imagine what you have in the end. It's accessible, melodic and grandiose, but with the melodic aspect being worked on the guitars instead of keyboards (there are parts of the instrument, but not being the band's main element). In some parts, we have a modern insight guiding their songs, so it never sounds moldy or outdated. It's unusually catchy, because they evade the use of technical complexities that would bore the listener.
On the sound quality, all works in a very good way. All the musical instruments are sounding clear and with the right tunes, and the right dose of weight is presented, along that necessary distortion that a Rock album must bear, of course. It's not perfect, but the production worked in a very good way. 12 catchy songs are waiting for us all. If you're a Melodic Rock fan, or even have a good musical taste (that doesn't obey rules or patterns), you'll really have a great time enjoying songs as the charming "The End of the Same Old Song" with its excellent melodies and choruses, the excellent harmonies created by the guitars on "One Love" and on "The Calling", the emotion that flows from the tender "Black Rain", the accessible "Lost" with its 80's feeling, and the heavy weight of "Watch Me Burn".
It's a very good album, so let's hope that "Daggers and Dragons" will not be the only release of INFINITY'S CALL.
