In My Guts
Indiscipline
Since earlier days of Heavy Metal and Rock'n'Roll on Earth, the bands with a woman in its line-up or one formed exclusively with girls had a very hard struggle into the scene. Yes, we had a great paternalist view of them, but since the Metal Queen Doro Pesch started WARLOCK, the things changed a lot, for Metal bands with girls now are seen as normal (besides some narrow minded people insists to live in the caverns). Names as CRUCIFIED BARBARA, NERVOSA, DORO and many others show how they can play as good as men (and sometimes, better than them). And the Brazilian trio INDISCIPLINE, coming from Rio the Janeiro, can become a great name. Just take a hearing on their first EP, "In My Guts", and you'll have the clear idea of that.
Alice (bass guitar, vocals), Maria Fernanda Cals (guitars, backing vocals) and Ana de Ferreira (drums) play a mix between crude Hard Rock as MOTORHEAD and AC/DC with Rock'n'Roll and some doses from bands like ALICE IN CHAINS in their music, that is very aggressive, but charming and easy to understand (and like, mind you), with very good vocals, excellent guitars and a heavy work from bass and drums. It's nothing too complex, but not as easy as you can bet on. And prepare, for they got a lot of energy.
Felipe Eregion produced, mixed and make all the engineering on AM Studios, on Rio de Janeiro, but the mastering was done by Brendan Duffey on Norcal Studios on São Paulo. And the sound quality is very good, but a bit raw. It's clear enough to understand what they're playing and to get the clear idea of the arrangements, but raw as their work demand (yes, there are times when dirty is needed).
All five tracks are fine, but the better ones are "Devil in Me" (with a charming guitar riffs in the middle of mid tempos), the accessible and hooking "Indiscipline" (a more Hard Rock orientated song, with very aggressive riffs and excellent bass playing), and "Goodbye" (very good drumming and with a dense and heavy atmosphere). But "Guts" and "Deserving Hate" are fine songs as well.
Very good EP, and hope the future will give them (and us) very good surprises.
